PhotoVoice Exhibit Celebrates Indigenous Youth
The PhotoVoice project challenged Indigenous youth who participated in 2023 Tribal Journeys and the Queen Liliʻuokalani Outrigger Canoe Race in Kona, Hawaii to explore the concepts of culture and identity through the lens of a camera. It is an initiative designed to empower Indigenous Youth by giving them the tools to capture and share their cultural experiences through photography
With support from our gifting partners, Save the Children Canada’s National Reconciliation Program, Youth were able to share the positive impacts of their experiences through their photos and reflections. The project continues into 2024 and beyond with community celebrations, public exhibits of the photographs, and an online auction.
A curated public exhibition of their photos ran from May 23rd to June 28th, 2024 in recognition of National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous People’s Day at the Nanaimo Harbourfront library.
