Chief, Stz’uminus First Nation

John Elliott is the current Chief of Stz’uminus First Nation, and also served in this role from 2009-2020. Before that, he served as an elected Councilor and a Fisheries Guardian for Stz’uminus. John believes that the self-sufficiency of his Nation can be obtained through social and economic development, and through tsetsuwatil - a collective of people working together for a common benefit. He sits on the board for the Coast Salish Development Corporation, the Island Coastal Economic Trust, the Naut’sa Mawt Steering Committee, and Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services. John is a traditional knowledge keeper and is very active in his community, passing his knowledge of traditional harvesting onto the children and youth in his community, and providing for Elders. He holds an Aquaculture Diploma from Malaspina College.
